Idi Gaparayi, is a Senior Legal Consultant at R & Partners Law Firm
A dedicated Legal Professional with extensive international exposure, including as Legal Officer with the United Nations Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, in The Hague, The Netherlands, and Deputy Legal Counsel with the African Capacity Building Foundation, in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Idi also held the position of Dean, School of Law, University of Kigali from 2018 to 2020. While initially drawn to Human Rights and Humanitarian Law practice, Idi’s interests have evolved to embrace Contracts, Procurement, Arbitration, Corporate Law, Corporate Governance, Corporate Finance, Banking, M&A, Project Development and Project Finance.
Alongside his law practice, Idi is passionate about teaching law at the School of Law. He is a Lecturer at the University of Kigali (UoK), where his main subjects include : Law of obligations (contracts & torts), Procurement Legal Framework, Company law and Private international law.
Idi runs a seminar on Civil Society Law and, with funding from UNDP and RGB, has concluded (2021) coordination of a nation-wide qualitative research on Civil Society Organisation’s Participation in the Legislative Process.
Idi graduated with distinction from the National University of Rwanda (LL.B.). He holds an LL.M in Human Rights from the University of Pretoria where he was awarded the Keba M’Baye Prize for the best dissertation written by any LL.M student and is a graduate from Harvard Law School with an LL.M in International Legal Studies where he received the Landon H. Gammon Fellowship Award for academic excellence.
